Stones that whisper old stories

Dadi always said the stone chooses you, beta. Read the little stories, see which one makes you pause; that pause is your answer. If you are still unsure: rose quartz for a tender heart, clear quartz for a busy mind, amethyst for restless sleep, citrine for fresh beginnings, and a selenite bowl to keep them all clean.

Rinse gently in cool water and pat dry, except selenite, which does not like water at all; simply dust it with a soft cloth. Once a month, leave your stones on a windowsill overnight in the moonlight, or rest them in a selenite bowl. Keep them away from harsh soaps and long hours of direct sun.

A simple guide from Dadi's shelf, in the language of old household lore: amethyst is kept as an evening, wind-down stone; rose quartz is linked with love and being kinder to yourself; citrine is the traditional “fresh start” stone; black tourmaline and obsidian are the old grounding stones, kept by the door or the desk; tiger's eye is carried for courage before a hard day; clear quartz is kept as a focus cue. Selenite most of all: it slowly draws water in and starts to crumble. Black tourmaline can rust and flake, and pyrite in the abundance kit does not like it either. A rough rule: if the name ends in “-ite”, or the stone is soft or metallic, keep it dry and just dust it. Rose quartz, amethyst, clear quartz, tiger's eye and obsidian are all fine with a quick cool rinse.

When they first come home to you, after a heavy week or a low mood, and otherwise once a month at the full moon. Selenite rarely needs it; it is the one doing the cleansing. Stones whose whole job is protection, like black tourmaline, like a little more often.
