A carved selenite lamp that glows warm amber from within, every vein and ripple in the stone lighting up when it is switched on. Dadi left hers on through the evening — soft light, and the feeling of a room being quietly swept clean. It uses a small low-heat bulb (included, with cable) and is fine on for an evening like any table lamp; switch it off overnight. Never clean it with water — selenite and water do not mix — just dust it with a dry, soft cloth. Selenite is soft stone, so keep the lamp where it will not be knocked. Around 18–24 cm tall on a wooden base.

Questions about this stone

Selenite is the housekeeper of the crystal shelf. Dadi used it to freshen a heavy room, and to wipe the tiredness off her other stones: rest them on it overnight and lift them clear in the morning. It is also the one stone that rarely needs cleansing itself.

Real selenite is very light for its size, striped with fine fibres that catch the light like satin, and soft enough to mark with a fingernail. It should look faintly glowy, never glass-hard. If it feels dense and heavy, it is likely another stone sold under the name.

Never water: selenite drinks it in and begins to crumble. Simply dust it with a dry, soft cloth, and leave it in the moonlight now and then if you like. That is all it asks.

    Warm glow in the evenings

    Lights up amber and every ripple in the stone shows. Comes with the bulb and cable. Off at night and never near water, noted from the card.

    Beautiful, one small nick on the base

    Selenite is soft, so a corner of the base had a nick. The shop responded quickly when I emailed a photo. The lamp itself is stunning.
