पूर्णिमा
In our house the full moon was never only a light in the sky. It was the night the shelf got tended to. After dinner Dadi would carry her stones out to the balcony, set them on a steel thali on the ledge, and leave them under the moon till morning. She said a month collects in a stone the way dust collects on a windowsill, and the full moon is when you let it go. Nothing about it was hurried. She would look up for a minute, say a few quiet words, and go back in to her tea.
Chaand poora hai, toh mann bhi thoda poora lagta hai. When the moon is full, the heart feels a little fuller too.
Below is every Purnima of 2026, with the name each one carries, so you have one night a month to do the same.

पौष पूर्णिमा · Pausha Purnima
The first full moon of the year, in the cold heart of Paush. People bathe in the river before dawn, and the Magh bathing month starts the next day. A plain night to begin the habit: set your stones out, and think about what you want the year to be quieter about.

माघ पूर्णिमा · Magha Purnima
The last full moon of the Magh bathing month, kept for giving away food and warm clothes. The cold is on its way out, but the mornings still bite. A good night for the stone people reach for when the mind will not stop talking at bedtime.

फाल्गुन पूर्णिमा · Phalgun Purnima
Holika Dahan burns on this night and the colours come the next day. It has always been a night for letting the year's small grudges go into the fire. Set a dark grounding stone out and let whatever you have been carrying go with the smoke.

चैत्र पूर्णिमा · Chaitra Purnima
Often kept as Hanuman Jayanti, so a night that leans towards strength and steadiness. The year has just turned over in the Chaitra reckoning, with a fresh-page feeling to it. Good for the stone people hold for courage when something has been put off too long.

वैशाख पूर्णिमा · Vaishakha Purnima
Buddha Purnima, kept for his birth and his enlightenment both. It is a sitting-still sort of night rather than a doing night. A calm stone by the bed, or under the pillow, fits the mood.

ज्येष्ठ अधिक पूर्णिमा · Jyeshtha Adhika Purnima
Some years carry an extra lunar month, Adhik Maas, and with it a Purnima that does not come round every year. This is that one. Treat it as a spare night with nothing owed on it: put the stones out if you feel like it, or let it pass.

Deep summer now, the hottest stretch, with Ganga Dussehra and the waterless Nirjala fast close by. Tempers go short in this heat. Keep a soft heart stone where you rest, and be a little gentler with the house.

आषाढ़ पूर्णिमा · Ashadha Purnima
Guru Purnima, the day you think of whoever taught you something worth keeping. The monsoon is usually in by now. A night for looking after the whole of yourself, not only the part that shouts loudest.

श्रावण पूर्णिमा · Shravana Purnima
Raksha Bandhan, when the rakhi thread is tied for protection, and the tithi runs on into Friday the 28th. The obvious night for the stone people keep near the door to feel guarded. Cleanse that one dry, though, never in the dew.

भाद्रपद पूर्णिमा · Bhadrapada Purnima
Pitru Paksha, the fortnight for remembering those who came before, begins the very next day. This is a sober, quiet Purnima. Not a night for asking the moon for anything; just set the stones out, sit a while, and go back in.
आश्विन पूर्णिमा · Sharad Purnima
This is the one. Sharad Purnima, also called Kojagari. The old people said its light carries something like amrit, and kheer is left out in a steel bowl all night and eaten in the morning. If leaving a stone under the full moon comes from anywhere, it is this night, so do it properly: everything out from moonrise, nothing brought in early, a cloth under each piece for the dew. The whole shelf can go out, apart from the ones in the warning further down. The tithi opens on the evening of Sunday the 25th if you want to start early.

कार्तिक पूर्णिमा · Kartik Purnima
The second night to keep if you keep only two. Kartik Purnima, marked as Dev Deepavali, when rows of diyas go down to the river and the ghats fill with light. Many keep Guru Nanak Jayanti the same day. It is more a night for lighting things than for cleansing them, but the stones can still sit out, and a warm-coloured stone suits the lamps.

मार्गशीर्ष पूर्णिमा · Margashirsha Purnima
The last full moon of the year, the cold properly back, with Dattatreya Jayanti on the same night. The year closes where it opened. Set a clear stone out one more time and let the year's noise come off it before January.
Stone that suits it: Clear Quartz
Set the stones out after moonrise, once the light is properly up, and leave them until you wake. Overnight is the point. You are not timing it to the minute the moon turns full; that is only the marker on the calendar, and the night around it does the work.
Bring them in with the morning, before the sun climbs and turns hot, because a bright sill will slowly fade amethyst and rose quartz in a way moonlight never does.
A windowsill indoors is enough; the glass does not stop anything that matters. A balcony ledge is nice if you have one, but it is not better, and the stones need not be rained on. Put them where they will not be knocked, and where a cat cannot get at them.
Cloud does not matter, and people find that hard to believe. If the sky is grey and the moon is nowhere to be seen, the night still counts, the same as a fast counts on a cloudy Purnima. Do not chase a clear patch of sky. Lay the stones on a cloth or a thali so the dew settles there and not on the stone, wipe each one in the morning, and put it back. Forget them a night or two and no harm is done.
Beta, listen before you carry the whole shelf outside. Selenite does not go out in the dew. It draws water in and begins to pit and crumble, and once it has gone soft there is no bringing it back. Black tourmaline is the same story, it can rust along the cracks and flake away, and pyrite, the brassy one, the same again. Any bracelet on an elastic cord, too, since the water wears through the thread. These you clean dry: rest them on a piece of selenite indoors, or dust them with a soft cloth and leave them at a window the moonlight reaches. Moonlight yes. Wet, no.
None of this needs anything bought. A thali and a windowsill is the whole method.
