What Amethyst is
Amethyst is purple quartz, its colour coming from iron and natural radiation deep in the earth. The name is Greek for 'not drunken' — it was once believed to keep a clear head. Dadi kept a raw cluster on the windowsill and a smaller stone by the bed.

People turn to amethyst to wind down in the evening, quiet an overthinking mind, and settle into easier sleep. It is also a steadying stone for meditation. How to tell a real one
Natural amethyst wears its colour unevenly — deeper at the tips of the points, paler towards the base, sometimes faintly banded when you turn it to the light — and feels cool and a little heavy for its size. How to cleanse and charge it
Rinse briefly in cool water and pat dry. Once a month, set it out overnight under the moon, or rest it on selenite between uses. Keep amethyst out of long, direct sunlight — its violet slowly fades in a bright window.
