What Rose Quartz is

Rose quartz is a soft, cloudy-pink form of quartz, found in large rough masses rather than sharp points. It has been carried as a love token for thousands of years (Roman and Egyptian households kept it), and in many Indian homes a piece still sits quietly in the bedroom. Dadi called it the stone that listens to the heart.

It is the stone people reach for around love in every form: a tender romance, a friendship that needs mending, and most of all the harder work of being gentle with yourself. How to tell a real one

Real rose quartz is a muted, milky pink that lies unevenly through the stone, paler in some parts, and it stays cool in the hand for a moment before it warms. Dyed glass looks too clear and too even, is often a brighter bubblegum shade, and may hide tiny round bubbles.

How to cleanse and charge it

Rinse it briefly under cool running water and pat it dry. Once a month, leave it on a windowsill overnight in the moonlight, or rest it on a slab of selenite. Keep rose quartz away from harsh soap and long hours of hot sun, both of which slowly fade the pink.

How to use it

For the home, a cluster, a pyramid or a tower in the bedroom or the family room is the classic placement; in Vastu the south-west, the corner of relationships, suits it well. To carry it, choose a tumbled stone for the pocket or an 8 mm bracelet for the left wrist, the receiving side.
