Black Tourmaline
The guard stone — for protection, grounding and boundaries.
What Black Tourmaline is
Black tourmaline, or schorl, is an iron-rich crystal that grows in long, striated rods. It has a long history as a protective stone, kept by doorways and thresholds. Dadi set a raw chunk by the front door and another near the phone.
What people use it for
It is the stone people reach for to feel shielded from the day's noise and other people's moods, and to feel more grounded when things are unsettled. Common places for a piece are the entrance of a home, a desk, or beside a router or phone. Old protective lore, kept up because it helps people feel a little steadier.
How to tell a real one
Real black tourmaline is matte to lightly shiny, with fine lengthwise grooves running down it like a bundle of rods, and it feels dense in the hand. Its edges are brittle and can flake. A perfectly smooth, glossy, lightweight 'crystal' is usually black glass or resin.
How to cleanse and charge it
Keep it away from water — the iron in it can rust and the surface can flake. Dust it dry, and rest it on selenite or out under the moon. Because its whole job is absorbing, cleanse it a little more often than your other stones.
How to use it
Place a chunk near the front door, facing into the home, or at the corners of a room for a simple grid. On a desk, keep it between you and a screen. It pairs naturally with selenite, which clears it, and with obsidian for carrying protection with you.

Black Tourmaline Raw Chunk
A raw chunk of black tourmaline, matte black and ridged with fine lengthwise grooves like a bundle of rods, dense and cool in the hand. Dadi set one by the front door — the guard stone, for holding the day's noise and other people's moods on the doorstep. Many keep a piece near the entrance, the desk, or the phone. Keep it away from water: the iron in it can rust and the surface flake. Dust it dry and rest it on selenite or in the moonlight, a little more often than your other stones, since its whole work is soaking things up.

Protection Kit
Black tourmaline, black obsidian and selenite in one pouch, with a card on how to use them. This was Dadi's set for a new home or a rough patch: tourmaline by the door to hold the outside world at the threshold, obsidian carried on you for grounding, and selenite to clear the other two when the day has run long. Keep tourmaline and selenite away from water — dust them dry and rest them in the moonlight. A steadying gift for a house move, a fresh start, or anyone who has been carrying too much. Natural stones, each piece a little different.
