A raw chunk of black tourmaline, matte black and ridged with fine lengthwise grooves like a bundle of rods, dense and cool in the hand. Dadi set one by the front door, the guard stone, for holding the day's noise and other people's moods on the doorstep. Many keep a piece near the entrance, the desk, or the phone. Keep it away from water: the iron in it can rust and the surface flake. Dust it dry and rest it on selenite or in the moonlight, a little more often than your other stones, since its whole work is soaking things up.
