Questions about this stone

Black tourmaline is the guard stone. Dadi kept a piece by the front door, to hold the day's noise and other people's moods on the doorstep. Many keep one near the entrance, the desk, or the phone. Old protective lore, kept up because it helps people feel a little more settled.

Real black tourmaline is matte to lightly shiny, with fine lengthwise grooves running down it like a bundle of rods, and it feels dense in the hand. Its edges are brittle. A too-glossy, too-light, perfectly smooth “crystal” is usually black glass or resin.

Keep it away from water: the iron in it can rust and the surface can flake. Dust it dry, leave it on selenite or out under the moon, and it is ready again. Cleanse it a little more often than your other stones, since its whole work is soaking things up.

Unwrap the stones, read the little card, and hold them together for a minute while you name one clear intention in your own words. Then keep them where you will see them each day: a windowsill, a desk, a bedside tray. Cleanse them on selenite or in the moonlight once a month, and say the intention again.

    For a house move

    Tourmaline by the door, obsidian carried, selenite to clear them. The card explains it clearly. All three stones feel genuine.

    Good set, tourmaline flaked a little

    A few tiny black flakes in the pouch from the raw tourmaline. Expected. The rest is lovely.
