Tiger's Eye
The courage stone — for standing your ground on a daunting day.
What Tiger's Eye is
Tiger's eye is a banded golden-brown quartz with a moving line of light across it — chatoyancy — from fibres of an older mineral within. It has long been worn as a stone of courage and clear sight. Dadi gave it to anyone walking into something they were dreading.
What people use it for
People wear tiger's eye for confidence before a hard task — a first meeting, an exam, a difficult conversation — and for the kind of steadiness that holds a boundary without hardening. It is an easy stone to carry, in a pocket or as an 8 mm bracelet.
How to tell a real one
Real tiger's eye shows a band of light that slides across the gold-and-brown stripes as you tilt it, and its colours are natural earth tones. Bright red or electric blue 'tiger's eye' is dyed; natural red tiger's eye exists but is rare, and rusty rather than scarlet.
How to cleanse and charge it
Cool water and a dry cloth are fine; take a bracelet off before you bathe or swim so the cord lasts. Rest it on selenite or in the moonlight now and then, and keep it out of very long, hot sun to protect the sheen.
How to use it
Wear it on the right wrist, the giving side, to carry confidence outward into the day, or keep a tumbled stone in a pocket where your thumb can find it before you walk into the room. It pairs well with citrine for starting something and with black tourmaline for protection.
