The master healer, Dadi called it — for a clear head on a cluttered day, steady focus, and a fresh start. Clear quartz is the one Dadi called the master healer: for a clear head, steady focus, and a fresh start on a cluttered day. It is also an amplifier: sit it beside another crystal and it lifts whatever that stone is doing. A good all-purpose piece to begin a collection with.

Natural quartz almost always carries something inside (a faint veil, a hairline, a small cloud) and stays cool to the touch even in a warm room. Glass is flawlessly clear, warms quickly in the hand, and often hides round bubbles.

Cool water and a soft cloth are fine. Once a month, leave it out overnight in the moonlight, or rest it on selenite. Quartz is hardy, so no special fuss; just keep it from knocks that can chip the points.

A cluster quietly works a whole room, so put it where people gather or where you wind down: the living room, the bedside, a work corner. In Vastu the north-east suits calming stones; many also keep one near the entrance. Dust it now and then, and give it moonlight once a month.
