A hand-cut selenite charging plate, pale and softly grooved, light for its size. Dadi used hers as a resting place for rings, malas and tired crystals — lay your tumbled stones and bracelets on it overnight and lift them off clear in the morning. It is the simplest way to keep a growing collection cleansed, and it rarely needs cleansing itself. Never wash it: selenite draws water in and begins to pit and crumble, so keep it dry and dust it with a soft cloth. Selenite is soft stone — set the plate somewhere flat and safe from knocks. Around 10–12 cm across.

Questions about this stone

Selenite is the housekeeper of the crystal shelf. Dadi used it to freshen a heavy room, and to wipe the tiredness off her other stones: rest them on it overnight and lift them clear in the morning. It is also the one stone that rarely needs cleansing itself.

Real selenite is very light for its size, striped with fine fibres that catch the light like satin, and soft enough to mark with a fingernail. It should look faintly glowy, never glass-hard. If it feels dense and heavy, it is likely another stone sold under the name.

Never water: selenite drinks it in and begins to crumble. Simply dust it with a dry, soft cloth, and leave it in the moonlight now and then if you like. That is all it asks.

    One corner had a small scuff — selenite is soft, so transit marks happen. It does not affect use. Would have liked sturdier padding.

    Never wash it — heed that warning

    A friend rinsed hers and it started pitting within days. Mine only ever gets a dry dust and it is flawless months on. Keep it away from water, full stop.
