Crystals for diwali
Stones for the festival of light: bright, and easy to give.
Diwali gifting leans towards things that are bright, shareable and a little auspicious. A gold-toned citrine point or a clear quartz cluster fits that brief and lasts far longer than mithai.
These also suit the season's focus on the home and on a prosperous new year: a stone for the puja shelf, the cash box, or the entrance, alongside the diyas.
When to give it: In the run-up to Diwali, with or instead of the usual dry-fruit and sweet boxes.

Everything Dadi laid out on the sill the night the moon came full: a hand-cut selenite plate to rest your other stones on, a clear quartz point to hold one clear wish, a printed almanac of the year's full moons, and a method card in plain steps. On the night, set your crystals on the plate, hold the quartz, and name one thing you are ready to let go of and one you are calling in — then leave the plate out until morning. All three sit in a drawstring cloth potli with a selenite bar to rest them on, and a card in her hand telling you where each one goes. Keep tourmaline and selenite away from water — dust them, and set the potli in the moonlight once a month. Not magic, just a warm way to mark a fresh start.

A raw clear quartz cluster from the Himalayan foothills, cleansed under moonlight before it left our hands. The master healer, Dadi called it — for a clear head on a cluttered day, steady focus, and a fresh start. It is also an amplifier: set it beside another crystal and it lifts whatever that stone is doing. Keep it on a desk or a shared shelf where it can work the whole room. Quartz is hardy; a cool rinse and a soft cloth are enough, with a night under the moon once a month. Every cluster carries a natural veil or hairline inside — that is how you know it is real stone.

A hand-polished citrine point, warm as afternoon sun and a soft, even lemon-honey gold — natural citrine, not heat-treated amethyst. The merchant's stone, Dadi called it: for fresh beginnings, open doors and money that keeps moving. She pressed one into your palm whenever you started something new. Keep it on the work desk or in the cash drawer, point upward. Citrine takes gentle morning sunlight well; otherwise a cool rinse and a night under the moon once a month is plenty. A printed report from the Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur travels with it, confirming it is natural with no dye or heat treatment.

A clear quartz tumbled stone, bright as spring water and cool in the hand even in a warm room. A raw chunk of black tourmaline, matte black and ridged with fine lengthwise grooves like a bundle of rods, dense and cool in the hand. Dadi set one by the front door — the guard stone, for holding the day's noise and other people's moods on the doorstep. Many keep a piece near the entrance, the desk, or the phone. Keep it away from water: the iron in it can rust and the surface flake. Dust it dry and rest it on selenite or in the moonlight, a little more often than your other stones, since its whole work is soaking things up.
