Crystals for housewarming
A stone for a new front door, a new kitchen, a new set of walls to settle into.
A new home is the classic moment to give a crystal. The idea people like is simple: a stone that sits somewhere in the house and marks the fresh start: near the entrance, on a shelf in the main room, or on the first desk that gets set up.
Pick by where it will go. Something for the doorway, something for the room where everyone will gather, or a bright cluster that just looks good on a bare new sill.
When to give it: At the griha pravesh, or any time in the first few weeks after someone moves in.
What to give
- Black Tourmaline
The traditional threshold stone. Kept by the front door of a new home, facing inward.
- Selenite
A calm, glowing piece for a shelf or a lamp; folklore treats it as the stone that keeps a room feeling fresh.
- Clear Quartz
A cluster for the main room. An easy, all-purpose first crystal for the house.
- Citrine
The stone people put in a new workspace or near where money is kept, for a hopeful start.
How to give it
A raw cluster or a small tower travels well and needs no explaining. Add the printed care card so the new household knows to keep selenite away from water and to dust rather than wash it.

Everything Dadi laid out on the sill the night the moon came full: a hand-cut selenite plate to rest your other stones on, a clear quartz point to hold one clear wish, a printed almanac of the year's full moons, and a method card in plain steps. On the night, set your crystals on the plate, hold the quartz, and name one thing you are ready to let go of and one you are calling in — then leave the plate out until morning. All three sit in a drawstring cloth potli with a selenite bar to rest them on, and a card in her hand telling you where each one goes. Keep tourmaline and selenite away from water — dust them, and set the potli in the moonlight once a month. Not magic, just a warm way to mark a fresh start.

The one Dadi kept by the bed for a head that would not quiet down. Amethyst to take the edge off the evening, rose quartz to be gentler with yourself, and selenite to keep both clear. Three tumbled stones in a drawstring potli, a selenite bar to rest them on overnight, and a card in her hand. Hold one while you breathe, or slip amethyst under the pillow. Rinse the amethyst and rose quartz briefly, pat dry, and keep the set out of long sun so the colour holds. A gentle evening ritual, not a cure for a hard week.

A raw clear quartz cluster from the Himalayan foothills, cleansed under moonlight before it left our hands. The master healer, Dadi called it — for a clear head on a cluttered day, steady focus, and a fresh start. It is also an amplifier: set it beside another crystal and it lifts whatever that stone is doing. Keep it on a desk or a shared shelf where it can work the whole room. Quartz is hardy; a cool rinse and a soft cloth are enough, with a night under the moon once a month. Every cluster carries a natural veil or hairline inside — that is how you know it is real stone.

A hand-polished citrine point, warm as afternoon sun and a soft, even lemon-honey gold — natural citrine, not heat-treated amethyst. The merchant's stone, Dadi called it: for fresh beginnings, open doors and money that keeps moving. She pressed one into your palm whenever you started something new. Keep it on the work desk or in the cash drawer, point upward. Citrine takes gentle morning sunlight well; otherwise a cool rinse and a night under the moon once a month is plenty. A printed report from the Gem Testing Laboratory in Jaipur travels with it, confirming it is natural with no dye or heat treatment.

A little bar of selenite, pale and pearly like a sliver of moon, striped with fine fibres that catch the light like satin. Dadi rested her other crystals against it overnight — selenite is the housekeeper of the shelf, lifting the heavy air from a room and wiping the tiredness off tumbled stones and bracelets. It is also the one stone that rarely needs cleansing itself. Never water: selenite draws it in and starts to crumble, so just dust it with a dry cloth. Soft enough to mark with a fingernail, so keep it somewhere safe from knocks.
